NCCN PHARMACY UPDATES: NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF METASTATIC BLADDER CANCER
In order to help patients make informed treatment decisions, health care professionals need to understand the clinical data regarding the indications and efficacy of novel therapies. In addition, toxicity management, particularly with oral agents, can pose a unique challenge to pharmacists, nurses, and physicians as well as patients and caregivers. Frequent patient-clinician communication and the education and involvement of a multi-disciplinary clinical team to ensure adequate safety monitoring and effective management of adverse events is imperative. Pharmacists play a critical role in patient education, monitoring and management of treatment-related toxicities and would benefit from a comprehensive review of novel treatments for metastatic bladder cancer.
