Multidisciplinary Management of Wilms Tumor (Nephroblastoma)

Multidisciplinary Management of Wilms Tumor (Nephroblastoma)

Online10:30

The NCCN Guidelines for Wilms tumor (nephroblastoma) are new guidelines that will address management of favorable histology Wilms tumor in children. The NCCN Panel recommends that all patients with suspected Wilms tumor be managed by a multidisciplinary team with experience managing renal tumors because treatment for Wilms tumor typically includes surgery, but may include highly intensive chemotherapy and radiation. These NCCN Guidelines will be a useful resource for clinicians who may not be familiar with how to manage children with Wilms tumor. Treatment needs to be carefully selected to maximize cure and minimize long-term toxicities, such as renal failure, cardiac toxicity, and hypertension, because these children with favorable histology Wilms tumor generally have long-term survival if they receive appropriate management.
